⚽ Getting Started

How old does my child need to be to start coaching?

Our sessions welcome young players from age 5 (Foundation Stage) upwards. We tailor our training to suit each stage of your child's development, providing a fun and structured environment in which to build confidence on the pitch.

Does my child need prior football experience to attend?

Not at all! Our inclusive coaching caters for all skill levels, whether your child is kicking a ball for the first time or looking to refine their existing skills. Our coaches adapt drills and activities to help every player progress at their own pace.

Can my child try a session before we commit?

Yes. We offer a FREE taster session so your child can come along, meet the coaches and experience a Goals coaching session before you decide whether to continue. Get in touch to arrange a suitable session.

My child is shy or lacks confidence – are the sessions suitable?

Yes. We understand that joining a new football session can feel daunting, particularly for children who haven't played before. Our coaches aim to provide a friendly, pressure-free environment where children can join in, build confidence and develop at their own pace. If there's anything that would help your child settle in, let us know before their first session.

Are girls welcome at Goals Soccer School?

Absolutely! Girls are welcome at Goals Soccer School and everyone is encouraged to join, enjoy their football and develop their skills.

Does my child have to join a team?

No. Children can attend our coaching sessions simply to enjoy football and develop their skills, with no requirement to join a team. For players who are interested in match football, opportunities to progress into one of our DJM teams may become available as they develop.

How do I book a place?

Getting started is quick and easy. Contact us by phone or message and we'll guide you through the registration process.

🥅 Coaching Sessions

Where do the coaching sessions take place?

All regular coaching sessions are held at Plymstock School, Church Road, Plymstock, Plymouth.

What does a typical coaching session cover?

Our sessions focus on fundamental football techniques, including ball control, passing, dribbling and tactical awareness. We combine these with small-sided games to keep sessions engaging, enjoyable and practical.

What does my child need to bring or wear?

Sessions take place on astro and 3G pitches, so appropriate astro trainers or moulded boots are required. During poor weather we may move indoors, so standard flat-soled trainers are also useful. Children should wear comfortable clothing suitable for football and the weather and bring a drink to stay hydrated.

What happens if the weather is bad?

We have access to a range of facilities at Plymstock School, including indoor sports halls and outdoor Astro, 3G and grass pitches. Where appropriate, sessions can be moved indoors during poor weather. We'll let you know if there is an important change affecting your child's session.

Who runs the coaching sessions?

Our sessions are delivered by the Goals Soccer School coaching team, with coaches supporting players to develop their football skills, confidence and understanding of the game in a positive and encouraging environment. You can meet our coaches and find out more about the people involved.

Are your football coaches qualified and DBS checked?

Yes. Our coaches hold appropriate FA/UEFA coaching qualifications and meet the safeguarding and DBS requirements appropriate to their roles. We aim to provide a safe, positive and encouraging environment in which children can enjoy and develop their football.

💷 Costs, Booking & Attendance

How much does coaching cost?

Coaching is priced at £30 for a 6-week block (£5 per session). If a block runs for five weeks due to holidays or scheduling, the cost is adjusted to £25.

Will my child lose their place if they miss a session?

No. Your child's place is secure. However, we kindly ask that you let us know in advance if they are going to miss a week so our coaches can adjust their session plans accordingly.

🏆 Teams & Player Progression

How can my child get into one of your DJM teams?

We are always keen to help players who are ready to progress into match football. Get in touch to discuss current team opportunities, trials and progression pathways for your child's age group.

Does attending coaching guarantee my child a place in a DJM team?

No. Coaching and DJM team places are separate. Our coaching sessions can help players develop towards match football, but team places depend on factors such as the child's age group, current spaces and whether the team environment is appropriate for the player. Contact us if your child is interested in joining a team.

What's the difference between coaching sessions and DJM team football?

Our coaching sessions focus on helping children develop their skills, confidence and enjoyment of football without requiring them to play competitive matches. Our DJM teams provide organised match football for players who are ready for that next step, with coaching providing a pathway towards team football for children who would like to progress.
